General. Bolling called me prior to the receipt of the
telecon on the morning of 27 July 1950 and stated that
1r. Johnson, the Secretary of Defense, was very much con-
cerned about one item contained in the telecon relative to
the Army sister service, and requested that the item concerned
be deleted from the telecon and given no distribution of any
kind. He further stated that similar requests had been made
to the State Department, and that all copies of the telecon
in question had been withdrawn from circulation in the Depart-
ment of Defense.
I instructed Mr. Babbitt and. Dr. Andrews to bring to my
office immediately all copies of the telecon as soon as they
were received.
The item referred to by General Bolling was easily
identified, and I called General Bolling and told him that we
felt that this item must be made available to the President
for his information, but that no further distribution would
be made within CIA. He expressed his appreciation and raised
no further objection.
The attached item, delivered to Mr. Lay for information
of the President, is based on the telecon item referred to
above. Mr. Babbitt has a copy in his personal possession, and
.I instructed Dr. Andrews to bring it to the personal attention
of Colonel Schow.
All of our copies of the telecon have been amended by
deleting this particular item and it will not appear in any
other CIA publication or dissemination.
