I am attaching herewith a copy of a letter from
Mr. W. Park Armstrong, Special Assistant for Intelligence,
Department of State, to Lieutenant General Walter B. Smith,
Director of Central Intelligence, commenting on the work
of the Watch Committee. Also attached is a forwarding
letter from General Smith.
The credit for the success of the Watch Committee,
of course, belongs entirely to you and the others who have
participated in the Committee's activities. The forwarding
to you of these very favorable opinions of the Committee
affords me an opportunity to express my own very grateful
appreciation to all those associated with. its work. Their
deep interest, fine cooperation, and superior talents in the
several fields of intelligence have combined to furnish an
