I received your letter of 18 November with regard to
erican Austrian Society. I have the closest interest
in Austria because I have long lived in the country and, in
dditiort to that, have an Austrian son-in-law. However, in
view of my present governmental work hers: in Washington,
I have adopted a rule, which I fear applies in this instance,
of not joining any associations of this natur ~. I do sin-
cerely wish you all success in your task of furthering the
understanding between this country and Austria.
