Approved For Release 2006/12/15: CIA-RDP80RO1731 R0011700020041-1 ARMED FORCES STAFF COLLEGE OFFICE OF THE COMMANDANT NORFOLK 11, VIRGINIA 18 December 1951 General Walter B. Smith, USA Director, Central Intelligence Agency Washington 25, D. C. Dear Bedell: I was sorry you could not come down to the Armed Forces Staff College for your address to the students. I have gone through the same thing and understand your discomfort. I hope that you soon will be fit again to face the enemy (including biting him, if necessary). I hope you can manage a substitute date in January. Confirming the telephone conversation Captain Kemp Tolley had with your office, the following mornings are open: 14th to 17th inclusive, and the 21st of January. I am particularly interested in intelligence. I feel that your coming will do much to help us in our mission to train officers for joint work at theater level and for large task forces. At the same time it will inspire them to so perform their jobs in intelligence that it will ultimately benefit your office. I do hope you can come. Sincerely yours, A if " A. D. Lt.
