As you now has again written STAT
CIA concerning the cast of We have Just STAT
replied to and a copy of our reply is ent ssed herewith for
your Information. ave discussed this matter with Mr. Adams of your
office, and. l want to express my appreciation for the courtesy and under-
standing with which he has approached this problem.
I have pointed out to Mr. Adams, and I arn,sure he understands,
that CIA is unable to endorse anyone's personal security or loyalty and is
barred b law from entering this field. Therefore, we are unable to
the ca,tt orical statements that he desires concerning the
secur y 01! 1 However, we have pointed out to him that
for our own internal reasons we had found it necessary to cancel the
Summer program which it had hoped to undertake. Furthermore, in an
attempt to allay their fears, in a letter which we sent to
on the Sth of August, we made the following, statements:
""2 can give you, as I have given out of your colleagues, my posi-
tive assurance that cancellation of this program waa done with-
out prejudice to you personally or to your possible future employ-
meat by any Government agenc,,-.
In conformance with the statutory prohibition against CIA participating
in any internal security functions, I'do not think that CIA can make any
stronger statement than has been made in the enclosed letter.
