Dear Dick:
May 3, 1976
As you must have recognized, I had no idea when writing to
you a week or so ago that I would shortly be seeing in the press
the news of your forthcoming resignation from the CIA and retire-
ment from the Army. That news produced mixed emotions. I can
imagine some pleasure on your part at the prospect of relief from
a very difficult. billet. At the same time, I found some of the
overtones of the press reports distasteful, and woefully short of
giving you credit where a great deal of credit is deserved.
When you have some leisure, I hope that we can get together.
I am curious about your onward plans, being confident that you
will not vegetate.
Meanwhile, please accept my warmest good wishes.
