Approved For ReleasDEPARTMEN7'0F~EFENSER01731R00 DEFENSE INTELLIGENCE SCHOOL ~9~Y9~~ pl'~'ri~S~~ Jh-A~V+~1'S~i4f`I WASHINGTON, D. C. 20374 U-5080/IS Lieutenant General Vernon A. Walters, USA Deputy Director of Central Intelligence Central Intelligence Agency Washington, D. C. 20505 Dear General Walters: Please allow me to take this opportunity to express profound thanks on the behalf of both the school and the attaches-designate for your recent address to Attache Class 2-75. It was, as usual, an inspiring and uplifting address, greatly enhancing the motivation of the attaches-designate, and their wives, to participate actively in the human contribution to the intelligence effort. It was kind of you to give so much of your valuable time, particu- larly in view of your present duties and the pressing demands undoubtedly being placed upon you during the current situation. Your kind gesture in remaining after your talk to meet each of the attaches-designate and their wives is especially appreciated, as it demonstrated to them your very real and personal interest in them and their future endeavors. It is without exaggeration that I state that your appearance before the student body is the highlight of the Attache Course. Your many anecdotes and examples of your own personal experiences as an attache are not only entertaining, but instructive as well. Moreover, they serve to underscore and give "credibility" to much of the material to which the students have been exposed during the course of instruc- tion. Further, your emphasis on the importance of the Defense Attache System, in view of the significant position you now occupy, gives new meaning and relevance to the forthcoming assignments of the attaches- designate. Again, please accept my profound thanks for your most generous assis- tance in not only this instance, but in the many past instances of your most significant contribution to the attache training effort. Sincerely, DIA review(s) completed. ~~.~ W. J.
