Received a call from Mr. Edward Ellis, Managing Director of the
the DOD-sponsored Joint Civilian Orientation Conference. The purpose
of Mr. Ellis' call was to invite you to speak for about 30 minutes to
their Annual Meeting (Luncheon) at the Statler Hilton on Friday,
11 Oct 74. He apologized for the late invitation, explaining that
Secretary of the Army Calloway had been their scheduled speaker
but that he was not going to be able to do it after all., Mr. Ellis
heard that you had given an outstanding talk to the VFW group. He
was referred to you by Colonel Grant in the DOD Public Affairs Office.
The group will consist of approximately 100 people composed of
influential people from throughout the United States. The President
of the Association is McNeal Mitchell, a State Senator and prominent
lawyer from Manhattan. If you agree to speak to the group, Mr. Ellis
will send us a list of the attendees. He mentioned a few... industrialist
from Kansas City, Judge from Cincinnati, bank president from Oklahoma,
construction businessman from Birmingham, others from Los Angeles,
Detroit, Rapid City, etc.
