Dear General Walters:
This is a follow-up on our conversation at the Freedom Studies
Center earlier in the week. 'On behalf of our national president,
DeWitt James Griffin, you are hereby cordially invited to address
the Executive Committee of the Navy League of the United States in
Albuquerque, New Mexico, on either the afternoon of Marchi5 or the
morning of March 6. ~...
Your audience would be small in terms of numbers, approximately
50. However, it does represent the senior leadership of the Navy
League and those present would hail from every section of the country.
If you could take the time to present to that group the views you
expressed Monday night, it would be beneficial to all concerned.
Our meeting gets underway with a reception on Thursday night
and includes dinner at Summit House on Sandia Peak Friday night.
Judging from your biography, you undoubtedly are well familiar
with the city and with the peak. If you could take time out from
breaking in a new boss and from having to testify before those
eight committees of Congress, we'd be delighted if you could join
us for any portion of the meeting that your schedule would permit.
The meeting will take place in the Sheraton Old Town Inn.
I'll look forward to hearing from you soon. Meanwhile, I'd
like to express my thanks for what you had to say Monday; that was
a sobering presentation, and one far more concerned and thoughtful
Americans should be exposed to.

When you have a firm ETA in Albuquerque, it would be appreciated
you would so advise us. Also, will a military driver be meeting
k, or shall we? We will be happy to do so if you desire.
If you catch one of the early-afternoon flights from Miami,
which would put you into Albuquerque around 1700, we would be de-
lighted if you could join the Executive Committee for dinner at the
Summit House Restaurant. I gather the view from the peak is out-
standing, and you might enjoy seeing it again.
Otherwise, we'll see you Saturday morning. Jim Griffin would
be pleased to have you join him for breakfast on Saturday at 8 a.m.
in his suite. The Executive Committee meeting commences at 0900,
and you would be the first speaker. Background information con-
cerning the program will be awaiting you at the Sheraton Inn front
desk upon your arrival.
We look forward with pleasure to sexing you.

Dear Dick:
March 10, 19
To say the least, we got the word!
E:i au.ive Registry
That was indeed a tremendous presentation - lively, witty,
profound, and stirring. It gave us much food for thought. Be
assured CIA gained many supporters last Saturday. So also did
Dick Walters!
You'll probably have more invitations to speak now than
you can accept, since I know many of those present will want
you to come to their cities. This is all to the good, though,
for it does provide you some superb opportunities to bring
about a better understanding of what intelligence means today.
And there's no doubt that we need to be reminded of that, too.
Thanks again for coming, and for taking the time to have
breakfast with us, too. I sincerely hope that personally and
officially our paths will cross again soon.
