Dear Mr. Benedict:.
Thank you very much for the fascinating briefing on the
BART System and the visit to BART facilities in San Francisco
on 2 September. I congratulate you on bringing into operation
a most impressive project which has set a model for other
major American communities to follow.
I am particularly grateful to you for arranging personally
to conduct the Saturday tour when you might understandably
have preferred to enjoy your weekend elsewhere. I also want
to thank you for the two pieces of the third rail which arrived
this morning. I shall have them made into bookends to
provide a continuing reminder of my visit to BART.
Once again, I would like to express appreciation to you
and your colleagues for a most interesting visit.
