WASHINGTON 25, D. C.

General Walter Bedell Smith
Director
Central Intelligence Agency
2430 E Street, Northwest
Washington,, D. C.
Dear General Smith:
I was very distressed to receive your message
through our Liaison Agent of the illness of Mr. Lyman B.
Kirkpatrick. While at one time an illness such as his did
not hold too bright a future, with the modern advances
which have been made there is every hope for a speedy re-
covery,
I realize only too well the burdens which are
thrust upon you by the unfortunate illness which has visited
Mr. Kirkpatrick. I have sent him a personal note of best
wishes at the hospital and I did want to let you personally
know of my concern.
With every good wish,
Sincerely yours,
