Dear Mr. Dulles:
Reference is made to your letter dated
April 10, 1952, wherein you made.inquiry regarding the
disposition of a matter described in a commun-ica-tion
dated March 22, 1952, transmitted from this Bureau to
the State Department under the caption, "Hungarian In-
telligence Activities in the United States, Internal
Security - R and HU."
The referenced matter was introduced by your
representatives at the monthly Staff Conference which
was held on April 8, 1952. After a discussion of the
matter at the Conference, it was the understanding of
this Bureau that all the questions had been satisfactorily
clarified.
As a result of information furnished by your
agency on April 11, 1952, I have directed a letter dated
April 15, 1952, to Mr. Donald L. Nicholson of the De-
partment of State, a copy of which communication is
attached hereto.

the original, untested source of the information, it
was most important for this Bureau to obtain an evalua-
tion from the State Department and the CIA. I therefore
