Security as of June 30, 1953

The President has directed that, in accordance with es :ab-
lished practice, the department and agencies responsible foi the
serveral national security programs prepare reports on the L tats ?
of those programs semi-annually for the information of the 1 res dt if
and the National Security Council. These reports should show the
status in relation to our national security objectives as stated in
NSC 149/2 and in the report being prepared pursuant to NSC; fcti3rt
No. 776-b.
Accordingly, it is requested that the Central Intelligence
Agency, with the assistance of the NSC Special Staff, submit by
August 1, 1953, two copies of a report along the lines of NSC 14r:
on the status of the foreign intelligence program as of June 30, 1 ~'.
From the security point of view, it is requested that this
report be prepared as a submission to the President. , If any par- i
of it are particularly sensitive, recommendations should be n-
cluded as to the circulation of such sensitive parts to the other
National Security Council participants.
