this department is only now being built up, as the neutron house will 50X1-HUM
only be ready in the course of this summer. In an 1 haped-building a hall
measuring about 18 x 30 meters has been built A'Yiigh.tension neutron-
accelerating installation:of-1.6'MeV will be built into this. The installation
is made by Koch and Sterzol VEB, (now called Roentgen - and Transformatorenwerk);
Dresden. It is supposed to be the same sort of apparatus as will be installed
in Miersdorf. At the beginning of April, the installation, particularly the
neutron source, was still undergoing tome sort of development at the "Technische
Holc'.hschule Dresden. It is eetj.mated in the Institute for Medicine and Biology that
it will-be the autumn of 1954 before the installation can be used. Electricity
will be supplied from a 400 KW diesel generator. The building of a cyclotron is

The installations should suffice for producing trace elements only. It
will not extend to the production of isotope for therapeutic use (over 10 mg
R ). It is not yet certain what materials will-"be used for isotope production.
According to Prof. Walter Friedrich, Russia has
announced (angesagt) the supply of cobalt 60. Czechoslovakia is supposed to have
received such preparations. already.
