1. Twenty-five single-engine LA-11 fighters and five or six small biplanes are
stationed at the airfield at Tartu (N 58-20, E 26-43). The biplanes are
used for carrying mail and as ambulance craft between Tartu and Tallinn.
There are no other aircraft at the airfield.
2. Pilots at Tartu airfield wear green uniforms. On their chests are badges which
consist of two wings with a five-cornered star and with two crossed swords in
the middle; the color of the badge is yellow and white,
3. Reconstruction of the airfield was started by the Soviets in 1951. Residents
of nearby houses were directed to move because their houses were to be
demolished, and were promisedaecammedations elsewhere. The planned extension
of the airfield has never been carried out, however, and the local residents
were permitted to remain in their homes.
