in the southern Ukraine, there was a drought in the following
oblasts: Kherson, Zaporozhe, Odessa, and parts of Dnepropetrovsk.
this year (1954) they collected only five centners Lof grainy./
per hectare, whereas prior to.this year they collected .20 to 25 centners. 50X1-HUM
2. Bread and other produce is available in Kiev, but there are queues in the
stores, particularly for fats, butter, meat, and potatoes. In the markets
produce is plentiful but expensive. In the stores potatoes cost 60 kopeks
per kilo and in the markets they cost 1.5 to 2 rubles per kilo. In the
stores meat ffind not s cifieg costs from 6 to 16 rubles 5er kilg.
Milk costs 1.8 rubles Lper liteE7 in the stores, but 3 to 4 rubles in the
markets.
