1. It is now quite clear that the loss of the four sailors at sea was only a
pretext for relieving Ebissner of command of the NB BATORY.
2. The Party has ruled that Mbissner is to be held responsible for a goneral
slackening of discipline on board. This indictment completely chanos the
charge inasmuch as it comes under the political heading of "sabotage".
3. Pszenny, the first officer and a good Party member who has not been troubled
so far, was taken off the ship just before she sailed for India on 27
February and will act as the chief witness at the forthcoming trial.
4. Pszenny, who was on the bridge when the four sailors were washed overboard;
is most unhappy at the turn of events; as he is afraid that his culpability
may be revealed and that he will have to answer for his negligence. He hopes
that his Party connections will pull him through, but this largely depends on
the composition of the court.
