The higher NCO's, usually professional soldiers, receive a monthly base pay of about 12 hundred forints. When the suspect passes, a signal is given to the next shadowing team. The surveillance team consists of one NCO in charge and two or three men. (2) Pursuit unit - O xis unit is in close contact with the surveillance unit. It receives the signal from the surveillance unit indicating that the suspect has passed. They then follow the suspect as inconspicuously as possible. This unit consists of one officer in the rank of It or 1st It and 4-20 men. (3) Trap unit - This unit is also in close contact with the surveillance unit. The trap is set up at a location most likely to be passed by the suspect. After they receive. notification by the surveillance unit on the proximity of the suspect the unit gets set to close the trap on the arriving suspect or group of suspects. When the suspect is firmly in the trap they close in and make the arrest. This unit usually consists of one officer in charge and 2-11 men. (4) Blocking unit - This type unit is brought into play when a tovn or a section of tmm is to be isolated. This unit consists of one operational officer in charge and 30-100 men. (5) Searching unit - This unit does the actual searching of. an area isolated by the blocking unit. The searching unit consists of one officer in charge (Lt or a lot Lt) and ll-30 men. (6) Tracking unit - This unit is usually sent out to follov leamis left by suspects or engaged in tracing suspects. A Captain or a lot Lt is in charge of this unit and approximately 11 man make up the entire unit. (7) Checkpoint unit.- This twit is raaployed for chocking military and civilian personnel leaving or entering a blocked area. Every individual is checked for proper identification (ID. card). The team consists of one Junior Lt or BOO and three men. (8) Security Patrols - They are responsible for safeguarding the work of other AVO units. The size of the unit can range from a platoon to a battalion. Depending on the size, the officer in charge ranges !roan platoon leader to battalion under. (9) Watching unit - This unit has the mission of g srding agents left behind the energy. Agents are then rounded up by specialists. The team consists of one or two men. (10) Guard Troops - Guard troops we employed in guarding important military and civilian installations. Usually an operational. AVO officer is in charge. (11) Arresting unit - This unit makes arrest of personnel who co maitted political crimes, and personnel who damage or misuse government property. The unit consists of one officer (12) ranging from to It to Maio rs and from 4-11 men. firal -soaking unit - In the case where a person has been arrested by border guards, police or other government agencies excluding the AVO, this unit makes the AVO arrest and moves the individual to AVO custody. (13) Interrogators unit - This unit consists only of officers in the grade-of Captain and up. The interrogating officer during his interrogation controls as many EM guards an we necessary for the interrogation. This also includes visits by high foreign officials. This unit is responsible for securing the itinerary of the VIPs and of giving persasf!>s protection. (15) Government Installation Guard Unit - This unit is engaged in guarding goverment botldinga, homes of the ministers,. Party headquarters, etc. A3,]6 of the guard personnel are lCOa. (16) Personal Bodyguards' Unit - Personnel. Snarl this unit are charged with guarding the president, ministers and other high govern- ment officials, giving them personal protection. All of the guard personnel are HCOs. (17) The supervisory unit of the interior security forces - This unit is charged with the supervision of the work of all AVO forces in Hungary. War Gorog was the commanding officer of this unit from 1954 until 1955. Personnel normlly in civilian clothes.
