The transmitter was assembled at the Ministry of Interior b special AVO radio technicians, a diagram of the transmitter I o not now the manu ac urer of the parts used. On the face of the transmitter is a bakelite name plate that reads "Made in 1953 by the workers of the Ministry of Interior," This transmitter can be CW9 MCW, or phone operated and either crystal or master oscillator controlled, Its fre- quency range is 2.5 to 10 megacycles, power output is 200 watts, and the set operates on 220 volts, I believe that the tubes used were manufactured one of the type:i was an OS 1750/600. The AVO had been us ng a pole Antenna and was operating between 3.8 and 4.7 megacycles while communicating with the Ministry of Interior. 3. There is a GV--93 receiver in use at the station man "The Small Manufacturers Union"~Kis Szovetkeztf. 0 a diagram of the receiver, The GV=93 receiver is or phone operated with a frequency range of 1.7 to 30 megacycles. The following tubes manufactured by Tungaram with a (BM) stamp indicating the Ministry of Interior were used in this set: 6AK5, ECH21, EF22, EF229 ECH21, EF22, and EF22. 4. There also has been in use by the AVO a 50 watt, 220 volt, home- made type "VOGE-10." The transmitter operated on CW only and had a frequency range of 3.7 to 5.9 megacycles. 5. Another receiver in use at the station was a KS 6002/1952M (of unknown man:facture) whose frequency range is 2.3 to 5.9 megacycles, USAF review completed. 25X1 2 Approved For Release 2008/01/25 : CIA-RDP80T00246A000700750001-1 CW or phone operated, and required 220 AC-DC volts for operation. Two of the tube types used in this set are the 1RS(T) and 1T4(T) 5sed in the US Handi-TalkQ. the "Mohosg" fungarian National Guard 25X1 located at Szekszard. The Mohosg is similar to a youth organization, where the members can pursue several different hobbies such as radio operating, motor repair and maintenance, model airplane building; in addition there was training in parachute folds and techniques, and weapons. 25X1 were permitted to build several different types of transmitters and receivers. However, the students were not allowed to operate the sets unless they had an amateur radio operators license or were supervised by an adult who would assume full responsibility for the operating. The name of the man in charge of the organiza- tion was Ferenc Fojdl, who is an ex-Army radio technician. He assisted the mem ers of the Radio Club in the constructing of their radio sets. Some instruction was given on the R-3 and R-20 nilitary radio sets. 7. he tubes used in the transmitter of the R-20 radio are 3A4 and DLL101. The receiver tube types are 1T4T, 1R5T, 1T4T, 1T4T, 1S5T, and 3A4. 8. There are three different types of amateur radio operator's license. In Hungary, A. B, and C. Persons between the ages of 14 and 18 are authorized to operate, providing they are supervised by a responsible person. After 18 years of age and after passing an examination, an operator receives a license (A. B. or C) that allows his-: to contact any county in the world, exce t Western aermany and other countries . Persons 25X1 holding an "A" license may use up to watts power n send and receive at least 50 letters a minute, operating on CW only, In addition, they must be familiar with operating regulations, abbreviations, "Q" signals, electricity, radio techniques, short wave radios and politics, "A"licensed operators may operate on the 80 meter band only, 9. The "B" licensed operator may use up to 50 watts power, CW and phone, and operate at a speed of at least 70 letters per minute, The same coverage of subject matter is required as with "A" licenses, but more extensive, This operator may operate on all amateur bands, 10. The "C" licensed operator may use up to 200 watts power, CW or phone, at.a speed of at least 90 letters per minute. Knowledge of the same subjects as above is required. In addition, the operator must be able to construct his own transmitter and must be familiar with gasoline and diesel engines.
