1. The following information is based om personal observations of the source.
2. Alaaletical Designators. In connection with information contained herein,
specific poi ts of interest are noted on photostatic copies of HO Charts
1.928 and 4876 and, referred to by the following alphabetical designators:
A. Berthing area
B. New construction
C. Site of former chemical factory
D. Petroleum facilities
E. Two submarines
F. Motor torpedo boats maneuveri area
G. Three-four destroyers and one cruiser

BA Charts 2377 and 2369 were used for navigational purposes aboard
the vessel during the approach to subject port. Vesseljs approach course to
subject port was 135?Tt e reciprocal course being followed on departure.

Vessel arrived at subject port at 010417A and pilot boarded vessel seven
minutes later from a small motor launch0 incoming pilot, one R_Eq2b_a_l_
spoke fair lish and German, in addition to his
native Foiish. Source reported that pilot gave "good" service. Pilotage
Is compulsory at subject port at all times. Vessel got underway at 010507A
and arrived at berth at 010614A. Weather during the call was fair; the mean
temperature was 640F. Upon ?parture from subject Dort. Dilot boardeisi vossel
at 081236A. Outgoing pilot, one Braninski
provided good service. Outgoi*: pilot was discharged at 081338A.

4. Controls The vessel was not boarded 'ay a eontrol party during the call at
subject port, Three guards were deeleyed on the doek ill the vieleity of the
vessel. Souret.believed that seeeeal craft -were careying out waterside sur-
veillance on the yeeatl.
5. Harbor Craft Vessel was aasisted by two tage while berthing. Several other
tugs were observed operating at subjeet port.
6. Berthiug VeeselJa 'berth was in the grain handling area labeled designator A.
Source reported that there were eeveral grain elevator in the vicinity of
the berth but that veaeels cargo was offleaded direetly into trucks., wagons,
and railway ears for traneshIpmeat to an eeknown deatination. The grain
handling wharf vas about 12-1500 feet long and was of wood consteraetion.
7. Construetioa Source reported that the distillery formerly located at the

position labeled deeignator B has bean torn down and the land is being cleared
for new construction. Tht chemleal faetory formerly located at position
labeled dmaignator C has been torn &erne. No new coustruetion was observed
at this position, however. An old castle as repomtealy being renovated at
subject port and the type of work being eendueted led the soure, to believe
that the structure was to be used ae a fortified tower.
8. Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Source Obseeved a great amount of activity in
the shipyards lorated at eubjeet port. One yard was reportedly building
eight new ships of about 12 thoasand to 15 thouaand tons.
9. Petroltam Facilities A petroleam etoeage tank area was leeated at position
labeled desigator D. The storage farm. was eareoanded by a high concrete
wall and a guardhouse equipped with two powerfal searenighte was leeated on
top of the wall.
10. Naval Vessels Two midget submarines of aa eetimated 50 to 6o feet in length
vtre observed, at position labeled deeigeater X, The mubmariaes shoved un
armament and no pendante were obeetvede Seeeval new fast motor terpelo boats
were operating in the area labeled deeigeater P. Ths8 boats were armed with
a thrteeineh gun and MalMttfMg. 20mm and 40mm guee. Three or four destroyers
and one light cruiser were operatiag in the area labeled deaignator G. The
squadron was going through maneuvere aad laying gm:At screen e.

12. Shore Activities Almost al) of the crew partielpated in shore leave during
call at subject port. Crew members reported that food and drink ashore were
"fair". and that prostitutes were available in the taverns and on the street,
13. Miseellaneoun Source reported that social conditions in subject port are the

same as thooe at Gdynia. The Baltona Store in aubject port is operated like
the one in ad,ynia also. E: it or nine propeller-drteen aircraft resembling
the British Spitfire were eeserred. Also, vapor trails of high flying jets
were seen.
