Along the wharfs and piers, L=many cranes ith ch were of 25X1 Soviet design. The workers on the piers worked day and night. Some imen-provisions were available, one shipyard in the port and many factories on the. north side of the harbor which were working der and night. 10 vessels moored at the piers and another lA at anchor in 25X1 the harbor. These ships were of all nationalities A viet vessel cane into the r each day and unloaded 25X1 its cargo at Wharf No. 1. 7 no tankers and no loading or unloading of iron ore. 25X1 two naval vessels at a pier -speakers constantly played music and extolled the Conmtunist line. Although the laborers had to Work day and night, they appeared to be laughing all the time, the Chinese laborers bad nothing to do with sailors and remained a distance from them. The city itself was in not too bad shape; bnt the houses, which did not appear too old, were deteriorating. Window and doors on the houses were broken. There was a poor Seeman'a Club in the port Which was dirty and only carried a 81 selection of souvenirs.
