an Interior Troop battalion in Plovdiv, is responsible
for medical, technical ana chemical assistance to the factories in Plovdiv in
the event of an air raid. It receives its orders directly from the Ministry
of the Interior (MVR) in Sofia but also cooperates closely with the local civil
defense authorities, Mestna Prot ivo Vuzdushna Otbrana (ATTO).
2. In addition to a headquarters, the battalion has a supply platoon and three com-
panies, with a total strength of approximately 20 officers and 260 noncommissioned
officers and enlisted men. One company has approximately 70 chemists, another
approximately 50 medics; and a third approximately 70 engineers. Commander of
the battalion is Major Danev (Thu) and his Political Assistant is Captain
Dimitrov (fnu). Barracks for the battalion are in the Ebmenitsa Quarter in a
former tobacco factory between Belasitsa Street, San Stefano Street, and a
third street, the name of which is not known.
Transportation available to the battalion includes the following: eight or nine
Molotov trucks, two ZIS tanker trucks dth installations for decontamination,
two old-model Ural ZIS -5 trucks, one GAZ truck, and tWO M-72 motorcycles.

each company.
