The Valsts Electrotechnical Factory (Valsts Elektrotekinichekva Fabrikx VEF) was located on ulitsa Lenina, Riga, beyond the bridge (VoSdushnyy Most) over the railroad line coming from the center of town- The plant, which once belonged to the German. firm AEG and was taken over by the Latvians_be.... fore World War II, was subordinate to the Ministry of Communications Equip- ment Industry until 1955, when it was transferred to the Ministry of Electric Power Stations. Local Latvian authorities were gradually assuming responsibility for the plant, which had been subordinate to the Ministry of Radio Technical Industry since late 1956. 2.
