The WSK,Psie Pole Aircraft Component Factory produces various types of pumps for FRESCO (MIQ,17) aircraft engines, as well as auxiliary motors for bicycles. The plant employs about 7,000 wOrkera in two and three shifts. 2. The following details concerning the plat-it-pb?dUction shops are reported: a. The PA shop manufactures pump components and employs about 400 workers (200 in each shift). The shop's equipment consists of: (1) Six lathes, East German make, WMW, length: two meters. (2) Four lathes, Czech make, TOS, length: two meters. (3) Three lathes, Polish make, Wiepofama, length: 2.5 meters. (4) Five turret lathes, East German make, WMT. (5) Three turret lathes, Czech make, TOS. (6) Four turret lathes, Soviet make. (7) Four turret lathes, Polish make. (8) Two grinding machines (straight surfaces), East German make WMW. ? (9) Two grinding machines (curved surfaces), East German make, WMW. (10) One milling machine East German make, WMW. (11) Three milling machines, Czech make, TOS. (12) Three milling machines (frezarka gwinciarka), East German make, WMW. The PA-1 and PA-2 shops produce small parts for pumps, such as bolts, nuts and small pinions, as well as spark plugs for CS-13 aircraft called "Kukurydzniki". These shops employ about 130 workers in each shift, and uSually operate in two and sometimes three, shifts. These two shops work Duralumin parts only, whereas the PA shop produces both steel and Duralumin parts. The equipment of the two shops consists ol" the following: (1) Six automatic lathes of prewar German manufacture, two. meters long, (2) Three automatic lathes, of Czech make, 1.5 meters long. (3) Ten automatic lathes, of Polish make, 1,.5 meters long. (4) One automatic lathe for gear cutting, of East German make. (5) Three centerless grinding machines (bezklowe) of East German make, WW. (6) Ten small bench lathes. The PA-1 shop includes a fitting section with ten drilling machines of various sizes of Polish make, five or six mall drilling machines and one grinding machine of Soviet make. d. The PN shop produces punp casings of Duralumin which are subsequently tested for ttrength. The shop employs 150 workers in each of its two shifts. Its equipment is as follows: (1) Five large automatic lathes, of Czech make, TOS. (2) Three large automatic lathes, of prear German manufacture. (3) One turret lathe, of prewar German manufacture. (4) Two turret lathes, of Soviet make. (5) Two milling machines, of East German make, (6) Two large drilling machines (wiertarki zeSpolowe), d. The PN-1 shop, which produces small components, is similar to the PA-1 and PA-2 shops. This shop operates in two Shifts of 150 workers each. It8 equipment consists of: (1) Eight lathes, of Czech make, TOS, two meters long. (2) Four lathes; of Soviet make; two meters long. (3) Four lathes, of Polish make. two meters long. (7) Three die-cutting machines, two of Polish make and one of prewar German manufacture. (8) One turret lathe, of East German make, WMW. (9) One turret lathe of Czech make, TOS. (10) Ten small turret lathes, Polish make. (11) Two milling machines. (12) One polishing machine to which only the operator was permitted access and which apparently served for the processing of Small items. (No further details available.) e. The PN-2 shop, established in 1955, produces pinions and other small items. Its equipment consists of: (1) Two lathes of Soviet make. (2) Three turret lathes, (3) Two centerless grinding machines of Soviet make. (4) Two grinding machines of East German make, WMW (5) Four gear milling cutters. The shop includes a fitting section which is equipped with three centerless drilling machines of Polish make. The shop operates in two shifts of 60 men each. f. The TN tool and instrument-making shop occupies three buildings as follows: g. Hall I: This section manufactures calipers, thread gauges and other precision gauges (plytkiwzorcowe). Its equipment includes ten lathes of various types, mainly WMW; about four grinding machines for nuts; and three die-cutting machines (3). Hall II: This section is engaged in the mass production of instruments for metalworking machines. The equipment consists of about 40 machines of various types.. Hall III: This section serves as a finishing shop for products produced by Hall II. Its equipment consists of six drilling machines and a number of grinding machines. The PR-1 shop produces components of auxiliary motors for bicycles. The shop operates in one shift and employs about 50 workers. , - . A hardening shop. m. A plating shop. no An aluminum foundry. 3. The WSK Psip Pole plant indludes a vocational school known as the Engine Building Technical School (Technikum Budowy Silnikow). The school is organized into two divisionp, one with a four-year curriculum whose graduates are awarded degrees of engineers, technicians, or constructors. The other division has two-year courses and graduates are awarded certificates of trained fitters, lathe or milling machine operators. The curriculum of the four-year course includes aircraft engine construction and military training. During the fourth year students are taught to fly to enable them to test aircraft.. In the two-year course only metalworking is taught. 4. The director of the plant's vocational school is Ignacy Berek.
