FINOW Airfield Spotchecks, 1 & 9 Dec 56
1. No aircraft were visible anywhere on the airfield or in the main hangar
area on either day of observation. The chequered control caravan was not in its
usual position adjacent to the take-off end of the runway, nor could the vehicle
be observed anywhere parked on the airfield or built-up area.
2. The former TOKEN at MR 124 557 haU been dismantled and removed from the
site. The artificial hillock remains intact, together with the telephone system
which comprises 4 pairs and extends between the base of the site and the nearby
Schloss at MR 121 559.
3. The wooden barrack hut adjoining this former TOKEN site has been partially
dismantled and remains derelict. On one occasion, a KVP Luft guard was observed
patrolling the vicinity.
4. The Schloss at MR 121 558 was unlit after dusk, but the area was patrolled
by 'both SAF sentries and KVP Luft. No SAF personnel or vehicles were observed
either entering or in the vicinity of this building.
5. The main airfield domestic site was lightly occupied by SAP personnel. Very
little domestic activity or vehicle traffic was to be seen.
6. A new ADCOCK type DF station was observed for the first time in position at
MR 120 558, WEST of the Schloss. This equipment was of the conventional pattern
and consisted of 4 single masts eacr approximately 5 metres in height and set
approximately 6 metres apart in the form of a square. In the centre of these
masts there was a small squarish tent. A single pair of telephone lines led back
between the site and the nearby Schloss. No personnel were observed in the vicinity
of the radio equipment.
