On 23 October 1956,
in Budapest, students
held mass meetings in the streets of the city. The AVH fired on
the crowd and this precipitated the revolt inHungarya
when the revolt started, all the enlisted men
sent home by regimental order and the officers, all of whom
remained, allegedly took up arms against the Freedom Fighters
