Dimensions of the three new hangars adjoining the northern side of the parallel taxiway. Status of construction on the two eastern hangars and the single. western hangar. b. Extension of a parallel rail spur as far as the technical workshops building and construction of a new heavy roadway connecting the two hangar sites and linking the technical workshops building and the air traffic control tower. c. Laying of an extensive underground water pipeline. d. Construction of an underground passage between the s ern hangar and the underground concrete shelter (Bunker) on the western side of the road adjoining the air tr is control tower. e. HANGAR CONaTRUCTION The foundations of the 3 previously reported aircraft hangars adjoining the NORTHERN side of the parallel taxiway measure 160 metres x 60 metres. 25X1 excavations for cellars etc. The base of the single WE6TBEbX angar, is being prepared below surface level, and digging out has ~f depths and features of the excavation are not as yet 25X1 available. 2. EXTENSION OF RAIL SPUR & LAYING DOWN OF NEW ROADWAYS 25X1 A parallel rail spur has been laid down extending as far as the technical/workshops building A new heavy roadway is being constructed which, when completed, will connect the 2 hangar sites and link the technical/workshops building and air traffic control tower. 3. WATER PIPELINE An extensive underground water pipeline is being laid down between the water container adjoining No. 1 Fuel Installation and the new storage depots (magazines) adjoining the domestic site under construction in Jagens 5 and 7 NORTHEAST of the main airfield site. This pipeline approximately follows the same route as the main rail spur. Details of the depth of bed and type and diameter of the pipes ar not yot available. 4. PASSAGE WAY BETWEEN AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL TOWER & WESTERLY HANGAR SITE An underground passage (Gang) approx. 1 metre in width is being blasted from the rock, and when completed will extend between the single WESTERLY hangar and the underground bunker n the WESTERN side of the concrete roadway adjoining the air traffic control tower. A party of approx. 25 SAF personnel are engaged on the task of preparing this deep entrenchment,,:and no Ge;rnan employees have been allo-.Ied in the vicinity. ARRIVAL OF SAF PERSONNEL a) On 15 Max 57, a small SAF construction unit, consisting of 50 ORs arrived on the airfield from WERDER/HAVEL. This party is working under 3 Russian Army signals officers, the senior of whom is of Major rank, and are employed laying down the permanent cable beds. A shortage of cable is holding up further development. b) The initial party of the main SAF contingent scheduled to occupy the airfield is due to arrive on 1 Apr 57.
