The Officers' School for Quartermasters in Budapest 1) Location The school had the name SAGVARI ENDRE (Communist hero) and had three sections placed in three different barracks in Budapest. The Officers' School for quartermasters no. 1 was located in HtINGARIA ut 5-7 in old- barracks. Here they held a 3-years course for the purpose of training quartermasters by regiments and independent battalions (sections within the army). Officers' School for quartermasters no. 2 was located on KISS ANOS barracks,, ULL I u t,, w ere t ere also was a course for officers for the arms. Non-commissioned officers' school for quartermasters no. 3 was located on HUNYADI JANOS barracks, KERESPEST ut 27. That school lasted one year. The students were permanent non-commissioned officers. 2) The officers' school for political officers was located next to the officers' school for quartermasters no. 1 in HUNGARIA ut 1-3. The prerequsite for being admitted to this school was that the students had to have been member of the Communist Party for 3 years and have had served for 3 years in the ranks. The school was named after ZRINYI MIKLOS. 3. Infantry Rekiment EGER infantry regiment with the name GYESANT REGIMENT the duty of ts regiment was to protect escort KVG and to ope- rate behind F J lines. COMMENT. This unit is probably a motorized infantry regimen armored division. GYESANT may derive from the Russian the regiment was placed directly under the Ministry of Defense in 1952, however later under armored division MISKOLC. 1) REG organization and equipment: See attachment 1. 2) Armored division MISKOLC was placed under army corps MISKOLC. Page 3 In the fall of 1954 DIVKDO (sic) was removed to GYONGYOS, and in the latter part of 1954 the division was dislocated as follows: Armored regiment (M) Infantry regiment Infantry regiment Infantry regiment Armored regiment (M) Anti-aircraft regiment Artillery regiment Pioneer regiment 4? in MISKOLC in MISKOLC in VERPELET in GYONGYOS in HATVAN in PETERVASARHELY (37 mm anti- aircraft un) in GYON(;Y S (122 mm howitzer) in GYONGYOS. 3) The division's summer training field was near VERPELET. The division's fall maneuvers in 1954 took place in the region NE-E of the BALATON lake. The whole division was transported by railroad to SZEKESPEHERVAR from where they advanced towards SW to ENYING. The division itself repre- sented the enemy. The whole maneuver, including the trans- portation back and forth, lasted 16 days (3 to 19 September 1954), the advance in the terrain only a couple of days.
