MORALE Propaganda Organization of the Communist Propaganda The theater and the motion pictures in Albania serve as means for propa- ganda. In all the Albanian motion pictures theater are presented propagandistic films produced by the countries behind the iron curtain, and certain Italian films showing the misery of the western society. The story of each film is translated in special laboratories first and then it is sent for projection in motion picture theaters. Motion picture films are not produced in Albania; news reels concerning interviews with V.I.P.s, or construction of ce- rtain works are projected in motion pictures theaters before the main film Organization of the Albanian State Motion Picture Service In Tirana there is an organization called "MINE STUDIO" which is supplied with various tape recording equipment. All the motion picture theaters of the cities and towns are controlled by the a]m organization. Furthermore, in each regional capital there is a mobile motion picture service; trucks equipped with projection equipment visit the villages and presented films. The incomes of the motion picture theaters are sent to the "MINE STUDIO". Besides the theatrical group, each theater has a ballet. The theaters are under the Ministry of education, but they are supervised by the Education's Section of the Q ark Committee to which they operate. The acts performed by the said theaters must be approved by the ark C.P. Committee. countries behind Most of these acts, are translations of works published in the iron curtain The translations are carried out by special personnel of the ]:;inistry of Education. Furthermore, the Communist Party advised the theaters to play short acts in order to show to the state employees how the enemy can steal documents abandoned by them in their office. A Groups of actors take trips in the villages where they give perfo- rmances of propagandistic nature, inducing the people to accept collectivization. Performances were given for the recreation of the Armed Forces personnel too. Actors were mainly hired among the graduates of the Bramatic School of Tirana, who possessed good talent. Influence of the gropac andistic shows bn the people T-lost of this propagandistic films( most of them refered to KOLHOZ, etc), are boring the people. On the contary, other films kept far from propaganda, like the "Twelfth Night" (Soviet), and the "Vagabond"(Indian), are very popular. Theater is more popular than the cinema because although they are mainly covered by a propagandistic color, variety performances and little sk etchs rendered them pleasant to the public. The motion picture rooms and theaters are always crowded because there are no other ways for entertainment. Indirect anti-Reious propaganda carried out by the theate Shows like the following, which promote anti-religious feelings, are very often presented by the Albanian theaters:; ., Title of the show: The magic ca&'~r The -stnx . 31"4 `like this : - / Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2010/05/25: CIA-RDP80T00246AO34800490001-2 Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2010/05/25: CIA-RDP80T00246A034800490001-2 A t-ioslem young man and a Chris g in a factory fell in love and de- cided to get married. The father of the young man had no objections, but his mother refused to approve this marriage. In order to prevent this marriage, she asked a Moslem priest to help her. So he made a "magic cake" and advised this woman to give it to her son. But instead of the son, her husband ate a piece of the magic cake and started pretending that he wanted to devorce his wife. Consequently, after many give her comic episodes the mother of the young Moslem had to consent, when the young couple appeared in front of her and said that they had decided to get married. People's -Moral e The Nationalist population of Gjinokaster, regardless to their religion and nationa- lity, were well informed about the Hungarian revolution, and had a real picture of the recent events in that country. Source for such info were the owners of radios who listened to westerb radio broadcasts and passed the news to their friends. For the a/m reasons none believed in the political agitators who tried to explain the Hungarian events in their own way. Furthermore, the nationalist population of Gjinokaster, which is the majority in that area, desire their union with Greece. Morales Status Prostitution has been greatly promoted among the female labor personnel of the Textile.Stalin in Tirana; most of these women come from different parts of the country. A young man who knew that the old man had the a/m sum with him, asked the coach-man to give him a lift too. He said that he would pay the fares and so the coach-man accepted him. On the way to the village, the young man took out of his pocket a sum of 5.000 lek in bank-bills of 100 and 50 lek; then he started destroying some of the bank-balls, When the old man asked him why he was doing that, he said that he was tearing those who had no more value after an order issued the day before. Thus, the old man told him to separate the invalid bank-bills from the sum that he had with him.The young robber took the money of the old man and disappeared. government Furthermore, during the same year a clothing shop was robbed in Tirana; the robbers were not discovered. In Tirana there are a lot of beggars (old-aged people and children) and vagabonds. During-" 1956, vagabonds used to steal money and jewelry in croweded places.
