2. This was the Union Medicine Factory (Lien Ho Yao Chang, 5111+/0678/5522/1681)
This factory made sulphadiazole, glucose, rimifom, liver extract, various 25X1
kinds of vitamins, glucose-calcium, headache tablets and stomach-ache tablets.
Eighty percent of the factory's raw materials were imported
The plant was completed in 1955 and was owned by the Canton governnXjt9 't1957
supplied medicine to the Canton Public Health Bureau.
3. The Tung Chi Lien Ho I Ch'i Chang (0681/3444/5114/0678/0308/0892/1681.),, ,j '
producer of microscopes. Its microscopes were 600X and not of high enough
quality for use in Canton. Besides microscopes, this factory produced six.
other types of equipment including heat lamps. It had about 250 employees.
Kuo Min Yao Ch'ang (091.8/3016/5522/1681) on Chang Hua Ta Chieh (21+90/511.78/

5. This was the future location of the Chung Kuo Ko Hsueh Yuan (0022/09148/41+
1331/7108), "science center," which will be completed in late 1957. This
center was to be operated by the China Academy of Sciences.
6. The Canton Athletic Hall (0022/o948/1684/1558/7555/5148/5290), to be
completed in 1957; in May 1957 it was still under construction.
7. The Overseas Chinese Building (511.78/0291./l129/0633), completed in May 1957;
it was being used as a residence for Overseas Chinese in Canton.
8. This rogd. was known as International Road. It had been widened and
extended northward, and was surfaced with blacktop.

recreational area for the people of Canton. It included shops, res-
taurants and a swimming pool.
