1. The 14 m. wide connecting road running southwards from the rwesteru
end of the 50 m. wide hard standing only runs as far as the east-
west taxiway and is not in fact be9.ng extended to link up with the
main runway.
2. CABLE DUCTS AT EASTERN END OF THE AIRFIELD
The sketch accompanying this report shows the line followed by
cable ducts which have already been laid. Each duct shown has
two channels but in no case has any cable yet been laid.
3.
LAYOUT OF EASTERN END OF AIRFIELD
The accompanying sketch shows the probable lay-out as far as it
can be. at present determined
SUNDRY BUILDINGS
(a) The old transformer station between the pumping station and
the main runway is to have its electrical gear dismantled and
removed. The building will remain in situ for purposes not
yet known.
(b) The cement shed at the northern end of the rail spur which
serves the airfield will remain in situ and will later be used
as a coal store.
(c) The locomotive shed near the cement shed mentioned above is
also to be left standing wnd with extensions will be used as
a workshop.
(d) The walls of the building materials store (Material-Silos) are
also to be left standing, the future function of the building
is, however, not yet known.
(e) No further changes in buildings have taken place in the month
of October.
5. SOVIET WORKING PARTY
14 Oct 57
A Soviet working party of unknown strength started on further
levelling work on the airfield. This party has its own survey
detachment.

The working party is equipped with the following vehicles:
(i 5 x tracked vehicles S.3O
(ii 3 x tracked vehicles DT.54
(iii 3 x levelling machines (Planiermaschinen)
(iv 1 x bulldozer
(v 1 x 4-bladed paring plough (4-Schar-Sch.lpflug)
(vi 1 x triple surface roller (3 rollers in tandem
6. CONSTRUCTIONAL ORGANISATIONS INVOLVED
(a) Apart from the Soviet working party (see para. 5 above), work
on the airfield is being done at present only by personnel of
the ITB, VEM and 100 - 120 prisoners with hard labour sentences.
(b) The ITB concreting gangs will have finished their concreting
work by 9 Nov, after which they will leave the airfield. Their
next place of work is not yet known.
(c) Several personnel of the ITB will leave between 4 and 9 Nov
for:
(i RFIEINSBERG atomic project (no details giown)
(ii ROSSLAU (bridge buildin
(ii4_ LUCKAU (project unknown)
(d) One shift of about 40 men of the ITB, the so-called "Schwarze-
Kolonne" are machine maintenance personnel and will remain on
the airfield until the end of the year.
Note: The cable laying for the complete airfield will not be
carried out by VEM but will probably be carried out by the
Soviet forces themselves. So far no cable has arrived at
the airfield. Meanwhile the VEM personnel are about to
change over the STENDAL district grid from DC to AC.
7. AIRCRAFT STATE
There are still three helicopters on the airfield, parked .s they
were at the beginning of October. In the second half of October
they took off only throe or four times. There are no other
aircraft on the airfield.
