Allocations for "Social Constructions".
within both the five and six-year national plans, only
about one and one-half percent of total investments in the construction
of iron and steel plants in Poland was allocated. for social construction.
Social construction included: wash-rooms and showers, locker rooms, toilets,
recreation rooms, cafeterias, and mess halls; polyclinics and dispensaries
in large factories, and numerous nurseries and some kindergartens.
2. Not included in the above-mentioned one and one-half percent were safety
constructions and installations such as ventilation facilities, dust and
fume collecting equipment, purification of sewage and waste equipment, and
accident prevention devices on machinery and railroad sidings. For this
eategory,about three percent to three and one-half percent of the total
investments was allocated.
3. Also not included were electra-soot ventilators for chimneys, buildings
and facilities constructed outside the factory grounds such as hostels for
workers, apartment houses for employees, cultural centers, movie theaters,,,
sport grounds, and vocational training schools These were con-
structed and financed from other funds supplied' by' both iidustry,:and.by the
Ministry of Communal Economy. About two percent of the total investments
was, allocated.

for housing construction.
