not be greatly expanded.
The plant employed about 1+00 persons, and lit had the
best management and most skilled workers of all similar. plants in the US$R.

large dri113.ng machine tools; it also produced spare. parts for machine tools
and precision steel plates.

a. A large brick plant located in the. suburbs which was the,fYrst one in
the USSR to introduce a new semi-dry method of pressing c1a~r. The
.plant had new "Melia" type presses for brick production which were
good but were, complicated and had been forced into use in the USSR
by Khrushchev.
b. Several housing construction sites, some of which used the prefabri-
cated brick blocks (wall sections) about 1.5 x 1.6 x 0.35 meters in
size.. They were introduced for the first time in the USSR in Kiev
and were either produced in brick factories or on -the building sites
in .sheds. The use of these, briek blocks permitted the construction
of buildings during the winter months because they were produced in
heated shelters and also did not require skilled bricklayers.
only women were employed in the production of these brick

in Moscow which started production in 1955 and was the largest of its
kind in~the USSR: The new plant under construction had a.180,000 m'3
yearly production capacity of reinforced concrete elements, including
poles, ceiling plates of about 3:60 x 5 x 0.20 meters (which covered
one room), lintels, strings and treads for stairs.- The production of
this plant was to be entirely mechanized.
