Location and Use
LTzumdzhovo airfield is occupied by a Jet Fighter Regiment which is
subordinate to the Jet Fighter Division at Graf Ignatiev airfield. The
field was constructed in 1953 and has been in operation rice 1954.
k askovo-Dimitrovgrad highway by a gravel road.
The air f ielda which is located approximately two kilometers hest of
Uzundzhovo village and approximately five kilometers northeast of
Khaskovo9 covers an area two and one42a].f to three kilometers from
east to west and one and one=half to two kilometers from north to south.
The airfield is connected with Uzundzhovo railroad station and the

The rua is concrete
ray s approximately three kilometers long and 80 to
100 meters aide. It is surrounded by grass and runs in an approxi-
mately east to west direction starting from a point approximately
19000 meters from the Khaskovo-ad railroad line and extending
to a point approximately 19500'neters from the Khaskovo-Dimitrovgrad
highway. 'ere are electri lights on both sides of the runway for
night flights. Parallel t the runway there is an auxiliary runway
15 to 20 meters wide, called PaL].yozhk, which is used as a tauliway for
the jets approaching the main runway.
On the north side of the western end of the runway there are seven
concrete parking platforms for jets9 which are described as follows from
west to east.

usually parked because they can be watched more easily by the
fiord stationed at the parking platform.

Although there is no fence aretmd the airfield it is a restricted
area which is guarded. as fol.7.awa; .
a. At the eastern end of ih~.- on the gravel road entering the
field, there is a guard aim road barrier, next to tahich is a one-
stcMy brick e, 8 Is mks in size. There are approxi-
mately nine soldiers and .ane no n c coned officer in the
guardhouse.
b. At the western entrance to the field,, on the same road, there is a
barrier and.guard nest to a, one stcaj brick guardhouse, 6 x 4 meters
in size,tb. yellow halls and red tile roof. There are four to
five soldiers and one nonce sioned officer in the guardhouse..
c. Theme is a C.uard at the fuel depot north of the headquarters
building. During the djr. the guard is stationed at the entrance
to the depot and dmning the night he patrols inside the area of
.the depot.

Major Bans Kamenov until the beginning of 1957 when he was sent to
? the USSR for additional tairi.ng. The Chief of Staff and Chief of

size. It contains three storage rooms of clothing and shoes,

beds and medical facilities for 10 to 12 people.
h. Barracks;. two-story brick building,. 20 x 8 meters in sizes with
yellow walls and red tile roof,
i. Mess. hall and kitchen for soldiers; brick buildings 20 x 8 meters
in size,, with yellow walls and red tile roof.
T::*o garages with storage area; one is 8 x I meters and the other
is 3 x 20 meters in size.

On the eastern side of the Khaskovo-D trovgrad railroad tracks, on
the gravel road leading to Uzundzhovo village, there are four to five
apartment houses, having a total capacity for 30 farni1ies, which are
occupied by the staff of the airfield. Each apartment house is a tuo-
story brick. building with yellow walls and red tile roof.
Fuel and Water Sur
The fuel depot for~the field is north of the headquarters building,
It is an open areas 70 meters in diameter, and surrounded by a barbed
wire fence, t o cters high. The area contains tree fuel to ,, each
painted red or orange and having a capacity of I;0 to 50 tons, and an
undete r d number of gasoline dawns. At the entrance to the area
and just inside it there is a one story brick building, 8 x 6 meters
in size, with a red til e roof, his is the office building of the
depot which has two offices on the first floor and all kinds of oil
and paint stored in the basement.
The water depot and pump, which supplies the entire field with drinking
waters is located outside the restricted area of the airfield at the
western end on the i1askovo Dirri.trovgrad highway. A pipe the
depot, which _s one to two peters underground, extends beneath the
western end of the rummy to the mess hail and kitchen..
