The following data heave been noted regarding the electrical components of Spu ik III.
a. The solar batteries were made of silicon with a voltage of 0.65 volts per
cell and an efficiency of 10-11 percent, These batteries were being,
produced at the Lebedev Institute for the Physics of Solids probably the
Physics Institute 'bra P.N. Lebed.ev in Mosco7.
b. The antennas were dipole, were bent; and were probably short. They were
fed through a "gamma match" (half T).
c. The insulation of the transmitter system (sistemi radiants) had not been
taken care ofland a common Bakelite was probably being used.
d. The entire mechanical make-up left much to be desired as far as precision
and accuracy were concerned. Various pieces were poorly finished and did
not fit well and many screws had treads which were worn smooth.
