I. Details
Sariwwn City Plan
1. As'a result of the NK reorganization of the NK administrative districts,
Sari%una4 (Pre-RO) was promoted to the sta us of a city as the seat of
the provincial goverment for Hwanghae-bukto.
2. Sariw~n was completely destroyed during the Korean War. Following the
Armistice, however, with the mobilization of the citizens of Sariw4n
and the Hwanghae-bukto Trust, schools, public institutions, official
residences, means of transportations, bridges, enterprise stations,
and factories have been restored or newly built, with the civilian
residences reconstructed by-the owners themselves,
3. The population of Sariwwn has increased to 180,000 as compared with
80,000 prior to the Korean liar, the cause of this. increase being the
mass immigration of farmers from the mountainous districts of HamgyIhg-
bukto, Chagang-do, and Kangw~n-do, under Government plans, executed during
the famine years in NK. The great majority of the citizens in Sariwwn
are farmers.
