south of the rail line
The depot was completed in 1950. The dirt road used to transport the
building materials was improved in 1952 to serve the depot.
It is located near MADARASI ERDO, south of the SIOFOK-ST. [?]
SOMOGYMEGGYES rail line, on a small hill, as shown on attached Sketch No. 1.
Its administrative agency is not known.

The buildings consist of an undetermined number of sheds, surrounded
by earth bunkers as protection against explosions. They are more or less
like the following sketch:
The area of the compound is about 800 by 1,000 meters, and is located
in a woody tract. The surrounding ground is covered by the same vegetation.
There is no rail connection. Freight arrives by rail to the SOMOGYMEGGYES
Station, and from there is transported to the depot by motor vehicles using
the service road.
The stored materiel consists of ammunition (?) of unknown type and
all contained in boxes of different sizes, some of which took four men to
handle. the depot now stores materiel which employed
800 railroad cars to move. The operation required the use of an unknown
number of workers for many months.
The personnel employed in handling and storing the materiel wore
rubber-soled shoes.
when the Hungarian armed forces were divided into
four army corps before the revolution), the ammunition from this depot was
sent to the units of the Southwest Region Army Carps. Its present destina-
tion is not known.
Security, observed at a distance, includes guards equipped with sub-
machine guns posted on the watchtowers along the depot enclosure.

B - SOVIET GROUND FORCES IN HUNGARY
a - Tank Brigade (?) at GYURGYOKAPUSZTA, about 5 kilometers north-
northeast of TAB
The Soviet unit was moved there at the time of the insurrection, and
the barracks were formerly occupied by a Hungarian antiaircraft regiment.
The barracks are located in a thickly wooded section about 500 meters
south-southeast of the railroad station of GYURGYOKAPUSZTA, as shown on
attached Sketch No. 2.
The unit has a strength of about 1,000 men. Its armor consists of
80-100 tanks of various kinds. they were all late
models. Among these is a tank model less than 2 meters high at the turret,
and unusually long and wide.
Other equipment includes light-armored vehicles for transporting troops,
armed with a machine gun at the front; trucks that resemble the Dodge; and
tank trucks of estimated 7-8-ton capacity.
For training purposes the unit uses a special target range, improved
and enlarged in 1957, located near the barracks a.t about ~+0 meters north
of the road to BABONYMEGYER.
Description: Note - The letters and numbers listed correspond to
those appearing on attached Sketch No. 2.
The target range (21) measures about 800 by 500 meters, and is enclosed
by a single wire fence about 1.80 meters high.
(a) Earth bunkers (target butts?) of varying widths irregularly
placed around the area, abaut 6 meters high.

off the left side of the TAB-BABONYMEG1t~R Road at about 1,500 meters west
of the GYURGYOKA PUSZTA railroad station.
The barracks are divided in two sections (A and B). All the buildings
have terraced roofs. Dimensions are approximate, and intended use refers
to 1956, before they were taken over by the Soviets.

C - TOPOGRAPHIC IlVFORMATION ON HUNGARY (1957)
a - Construction of a railroad connection and station improvement
at AJKA, 10 kilometers east of DEVECSER.
(1) The railroad connection starts at the AJKA Station and runs
west, almost parallel to and some 200 meters from the rail line to KOLONTAR,
with which it makes a junction about 7 kilometers later.
The AJKA-KOLONTAR rail line goes through a section about 3 kilometers
from AJKA which contains a thermal electric power plant adjacent to a
plant for the processing of bauxite (see attached Sketch No. 3). The
railroad connection is being constructed to avoid rail 50X1-H U M
traffic over the aforementioned section.

S~GRET
The laying of the connection requires the filling of a hollow near
the bauxite processing plant. The earth fill is being dug from the side
of a hill south of the station.
(2) Improvement of the AJKA railroad station consists of the
laying of new connecting a.nd marshaling tracks (number unknown), to meet
the expected traffic increase following the construction of the new AJKA-
HALINIBA-TAPOLCA rail line discussed below.
b - Reconstruction of the rail line from AJKA to HALIN~A, 9.5 kilo-
meters northeast of NYITRAD [sic]
Up to 1956, the rail line had been used exclusively for the trans-
portion of the workers employed in the bauxite mines of HALIMRA and the
bauxite processing plant near AJKA (identified with a number 2 in attached
Sketch No. 3). There was no passenger traffic on the line.
Following the proposed extension of the rail 50X1-H U M
line to TAPOLCA, to be used for passenger traffic besides freight, it was
decided to reconstruct the old stretch, which would not meet the expected
demands, using the same stretch.
Rail traffic between AJKA and HALINIBA was discontinued for'the
reconstruction of the line; the transportation of the workers and the
bauxite from the mines to the processing plant was being done by trucks.
c- Construction of the rail line from HALIl~A (10 kilometers east of
DEVECSER) to TAPOLCA
The new line is being constructed to link TAPOLCA to the national
rail network. The location of the stretch, which is an extension of the
AJKA-HALIl~A line, is not known.
The present progress of the work is not known.
it was started from HALIMBA working toward TAPOLCA. 50X1-H U M
d - Miscellaneous
All of the above-mentioned rail lines are single track, standard
gauge, and for use by steam locomotives.
