Dashkesan Rudstroy Trust and Rudoupravleniye, Azerb. SSR
The Dashkesan Rudstroy and Rudoupravleniye of the Ministry of Ferro-
Metallurgy of Azerb. SSR are located in the so-called "Uchastok 8550X1-H U M
(Center 85), about eight kilometers north of the city of Dashkesan , on
the left bank of the Koshkarchay River. Facilities include the iron ore
concentrating plant

so-called "UP"" (full name not available) which is a supply office for
various materials needed for mining and processing the ore. Also, it
maintains the cable car lines and storage and loading facilities at
"Kushchinskiy Most" Railroad Station, about 6 kilometers north of Center 85.
Director of Rudstroy was (fnu) VALIZADE, Director of Rudoupravleniye was
(fnu) RUSTANOV, Director of Mining was (fnu) YUSUPOV, and his assistant
(fnu) VELIYEV (no other names available).
2. Iron ore was mined from two sites, viz. Eastern Mining Area and Western
Mining Area.
a. Eastern Mining Area, also called "Gornyy Tsekh", is located on the
right bank of the Koshkarchay river covering the distance of about
one and one-half kilometer. It has its own crushing plant, where
large pieces of ore are broken down and transported by a cable car
line to a concentration plant.
b. Western Mining Area, which is on the left bank of the river does not
have its own crushing plant, and large boulders of ore are transported
by trucks to the concentration plant building, where also the crushing
plant is located. Pneumatic hammers were used to assist excavators.
After being processed, the iron ore is loaded again on cable cars using
an automatic dumping machine, and is transported to a place called
"Kushchinskiy Most", a railroad station, where it is loaded on railroad
cars and shipped away (destination unknown).

The new section of the mining area, which has been favorably tested by
the Exploration Group (GRP) is taken over by the Rudoupravleniye. Holes,
8-12 meters deep, are drilled and packed with explosives. There were
eight drilling machines operating on electric current used for such a
job. After explosion, the top layer is usually removed to the mine dump,
and the actual mining of iron ore be ins

Kirovabad Oil Exploration near Kazambulak

1. Oil exploration was conducted in the area of Kazambulak by the Kirovabad
Oil Exploration Group headed by (fnu) KASANZALE; Chief Engineer was
(fnu) BAGDASAROV. Group operated more than 100 wells, working in three
shifts with six workers attached to each tower per shift. Drilling was

Kirovabad Oil Exploration near Geran' (Duz-Dag)
1. Oil Exploration was conducted in the area of Duz-Dag from 1916 until about
1918 by the Kirovabad Oil Trust. Director of the Exploration Group was
(fnu) PROT_ASOV; Chief Engineer was (fnu) BAYRAMV. The Group worked in
three shifts and operated six towers with six workers attached to each
tower per shift. the site was abandoned due to
underground water in the area.

Kirovabad Oil Exploration near Barda
1. Oil exploration was conducted in the area of Barda, about four kilometers
south of the town, by the Kirovabad Oil Exploration Group. Director of
the Exploration Group was (fnu) INDRIZOV; Chief Engineer was (fnu) KUROP4.TKIN.
The group worked in three shifts and operated twenty towers with six workers
attached to each tower per shift. Exploration went on until about 2,000 meters
depth was reached. The area was abandoned in 1954 since results of explorations
were negative.

Wine Distillery in Leninkend near Shamkhor, Azer, SSR

1, The wine distillery of Leninkend employed some 50 workers under the super-
vision of plant director (fnu) ABDULLAYEV and chief engineer Kurban
KURBANZADE, At the peak of the grape season it distilled some 30-50
truck loads of grapes usually delivered by 5-6 neighboring collective
farms, 50X1-HUM

The factory was accommodated in four buildings. One of them
was engaged in washing and pressing grapes; two others
processed (with alcohol) and filtered the wine; the fourth
building was used for packing and storing the ready-made wine for a period
of from six to twelve months, the distillery produced
dry and sweet barrel wine only. During a season the peak output reached
86 barrejt!onng four to five hundred liters per day. At this time
the factory worked around the clock pressing wine. In the winter it laid
off part of the workers; the remaining crew was engaged in loading the trucks
and transporting the wine to the railroad. 50X1-HUM

1, Silk Combine No, 1 in Nukha is located on Lenin Street with the main entrance
from the side street (name not available), and occupies an area of about
1.5 sq. kilometers. The area is surrounded by a wall two-meters high. There
are nine buildings within the Combine, described 0 as follow

Raw material is brought to Combine in trucks and finished product is
packed in "pachka", a package which consists of twelve rolls of fabric,
each roll one aster wide and sixty meters long.
Raw material is taken first to the Cocoon Processing Shop, From here it
goes to the Thread Reeling Shop where threads are made. After the Thread
Reeling Shop, the greater part of threads are taken to the Thread Winding
Shop and put on spools; the rest are taken to the Weaving Shop to make the
basis for fabric. Spools from the Winding Shop are returned to
the Weaving Shop where fabric is made. From here, rolls of fabric arp
taken to Dye Works where fabric is colored. The finished product is 50X1 -HU M
packed and shipped out, 50X1-HUM
Electricity is supplied by MQES
(Ningeohaur Hydro-Electrie tation , and steam for the Dye Works is
produced in the Boiler Room. The estimated number of machines on the

The Combine operates in three shifts, six days per week. The dally schedule
is as follows: lot shift: 0700-1500 hours; 2nd shifty 1500-2300 hours;
3rd shift: 2300-0700 hours. Each shift has a rest period of 30 minutes,
Average wages are from 600 to 900 Rubles per month, based on piece work.
Income tax of 6 percent and State Loan are deducted from the wages. Workers

1, Ordzhonikidze Textile Combine in Kirovabad is located between Oktyabrskaya
Street and Azizbekov Street, with the main entrance from Oktybrskaya Street,
It is surrounded a two-meter high wall, and has five buildings which
were described as follows: 50X1-HUM
(1-a) Administration building with offices of the director, chief engineer
and infirmary.
(1-b) Office of the chief of security guard and the meeting hall,
(2) Two-story structure. On the first floor are various maintenance

The Combine employs about 3,500 people (25 percent men and 75 percent women),
with the following breakdown on ethnical groups:
Russians 90 percent
Soviet Azerb. 7 percent
Armenians 3 percent
Work is done in three shifts, viz. 0700-1500 hours for the first shift;
1500-2300 hours for the second; and 2300-0700 hours for the third, with
30 minute rest periods in each shift. Wages are based on piece work system
and vary from 6b0 to 1000 Rubles per month. Income tax of 6 percent aid
State Loan are deducted from the wages.
Workers are issued passes which they have to present to the guard when
entering the Combine, Men and women have separate entrances since when
leaving the Combine they are searched. Civilian guards also use watch
towers to maintain security of the premises.

Tactile Technicum in Kirovabad, Azerb. SSR
1, The Textile Technicum in Kirovabad is located on Oktyabrskaya Street, near
the Ordzhonikidze Textile Combine. It is a two-story structure. The
Director of the Technicum is Abas ABBASSOV; the Assistant Director is
fnu KEiADYSHOV. The school has a staff of about eight instructors, Program-
wise, the Technicum has two sections which train specialists in Spinning
Operations and in Weaving Operations. The complete course covers four years
of studies. Classes are held during the day, from 0900-1400 hours, six
days per week. The total enrollment0 was ca. 150 men and 50 women
students. 50X1-HUM
2. Admission of applicants is limited to those completing the 7th grade of
primary education and final decision on admittance is based on results
achieved on competative entrance examinations, however,
many applicants, were admitted to the school after
failing the test by giving 150 Rubles to the examining instructor. 50X1-HUM
3, Curriculum in Section of Weaving is as follows:
1st year: Russian language, Azerbaydzhanian literature, chemistry, physics
and mathematics.
2nd year: Russian and Azerbaydzhanian literature, chemistry, geometry,
weaving operations, foreign language 50X1-HUM
3rd year: Drawing pertinent to weaving, practice weaving
4th year: Advanced practice weaving,
4. The school provides dormitories for both men and women students who do not
live in town. Also, monetary allowances are given to students, viz. lst
year - 140 Rubles per month; 2nd year - 180 Rubles; 3rd year - 200 Rubles;
and 4th year - 250 Rubles.
5. Students other than those having stateless status were required to participate
in military drills. The school had some sport clubs,

1. LXNIM Silk Combine (Shalkoryy Kambinat mini Lamina) is located at
the southern outskirt of NUZHA, at the so rester of the combine - fmt ItNADgii1M.
Chief engineer - fnu AJUOW?OY.
Party secretary - Zivar LU.
Personnel office manager - Feyrus LUU.
4. The combine consisted of five shops] two weaving shops (Superintendent
of one of then - Anvers SULTANOY), a pattern printing shop, a cocoon processing
shop and a thread minding shop.

5. The repair office lemplayed 10 men and was l engaged
in the repair of the combine buiumige. pouperuitecident of this

6. Motor pool of the combine had a fleet of 20-25 QAZ and SIS-wade
regular and dxm trucks and ono passenger car assigned to the combine director.
Four trucks were engaged in the construction of
a workers{ settlement located near the eombine grounds. The Superintendent

2. The Masloshirkombinat (Director - fnu ISYANDEROY) included the following
shepst
a. Press shop which extracted
oil from cotton sseds. It was equip -e with 23-30 presses, and 50X1-HUM
.splo7ed 300.350 worksrs in three shifts. The cotton seeds were
brought to the Za binat in potato sacks from local plants and, in-
frequently, from TASMCZNT, and were stored in the open near the shop.
During bad weather the sacks were protected with canvas covers.

b. Soap boiling shop which employed 90-100 Caen in two
shifts. It produced 12 tons of soap daily. 50X1-HUM
a. Mechanical shop which employed 150 workers in one
shift, and was concerned the maintenance and repair of machines

The shop wtployed 20 am per shift, and produced daily 900 boxes used
for soap packing. The boxes sad. for the packing of utility soap

3. The *=bin* was connected with the ZIROYABAD freight station by a regular
gauge railroad. Another, narrow gauge connection was used for intershop
transportation.
