The foundry began operating in late 1956, and employed 30 workers in one
shift. It was constructed by Building Trust No. 1 in Vilnius (N 54-4+1,
E 25-14).

1. Building Trust No. 1 in Vilnyus (N 54-40 E 25-14), which specialized in 50X1-HUM
the construction of apartment buildings, constructed the following industrial
enterprises: the Elfa plants, the oxygen plant in Vilnyua, and iron foundry
in Novaya Vileyka (N 54-42 E 25-21). The foundry, which was constructed
between 1954 and 1956, and atar#,ed operating in late 1956, was subordinate
to the Ministry of Local Industry.
2. The foundry, which bordered on a sawmill, had one building, in which there
was a furnace (vagranka) five meters high and 50 centimeters in diameter.
Its output, which included stove doors and grates for domestic brick ovens,
was for local consumption The plant's raw materials consisted of iron
from the interior of Russia and coal which arrived at the station in
freight cars and was transported to the plant by truck.

1. The Elnias Leather Products Combine (Kozh. Kambinat
Elnfas) is located on Vilniaus Street in Sbyaulysy (N 55-56,
E 23-19). The factory, employing 2,200 workers, manufactures
hard and soft leather and shoes of all kinds. It also contains
a tannery for leather imported from other countrieaj
The factory is supplied with electricity by the
Shyaulyapr thermal power station, located eight km from the town,
in the village of Rekiva (approximately N 55-53, E 23-30)., near
the lake. The factory has an operational requirement of 450 KW.
Production figures for the factory are as followss

b. Soft leather - approximately 300,000 m. per month.
c. Artificial leather boots (Kersoviye Sapogi) -
approximately 1,000 pairs per day.
d. Seim boots for men - approximately 1,000 pairs
per day.
e. Nailed boots for men - approximately 800 pairs
per day.
f. Shoes for women and children (quantities unknown).
2. The "Stumbas" Factory for Leather Products (Koch Zavod),
which employs about 500 workers, manufactures hard leather,
soft leather (mainly Russian leather), and felt. It does not
manufacture shoes.
3. There is a bicycle factory (Val Zavod) in Shyaulysy
which employs about 1,000 workers. It has an operatational
requirement of 600 KW.
Personalities
14. Mikhail Yakubovich Primaitis has been director of the
Elnias Leather Products Combine since 1919.
