During a stay in Burgas Harbor the 50X1-HUM following vessels were observed stern-tied at the Western Jetty: a. Twelve surface vessels, all of which lay tied up-in the harbor during the whole period. Description: Four of the vessels were alike mine-sweepers with an angled bow, one gun in shield on the forecastle, bridge-structure, a single mast with directional antenna aft of the bridge, break to the main deck aft of the bridge-structure, bulwarks extended about three-quarters the length of the main deck. A casing extended from the bridge structure aft about half the length of the main deck. Aft of this was located one gun. The vessels carried only equipment for wire-sweeping. One frigate, ,r esembled vessel a flush-decker, one 550X bout ten centimeters, on the forecastle, one smokestack, one tall signal-mast with navigational radar antenna at the top. 2. The Harbor: On arrival at Burgas the ship went along the Nemedri Channel through the mine-field. On the North Dock the loading of sun-flower seed was being done in bulk. Two large vessels could load at that dock simultaneously. three or four vessels of between 3000 and 6000 tons lay at anchor and waited 50X1-HUM 50X1-HUM their turn. g. At the eastern end of the Southern Breakwater, tankboats unloaded cargo. One tankboat was unloaded at a time. The size of the tankboats that were unloaded was from about one thousand tons dw to six thousand tons dw. The tankboats dropped both anchors far north in the harbor and eased out the chain until the stern of the ship reached the jetty. The hose was taken aboard over the stern. There were no tanks to be seen in the vicinity. The City: The city had a lot of restaurants with inexpensive food and drinks. One bottle of good white wine cost fifteen levas and a liter bottle of cognac, 42 levas, at the better restaurants. A dinner cost about fifteen levas. A lively Black Market trade was carried on in the city. Young boys in particular were engaged in the trade. Popular goods were cigarettes..- 50X1-HUM and chewing-gum, ties, shirts, raincoats, razor blades and watches. Naval vessels' location in the harbor. 2. Unloading location for tankers. No dock. 4. Dock for ferries and small coastal vessels. 5. Apatite silo. 6. Dock that will be used for unloading at the silo-construction. 7. New harbor basin now in process of being dug. 8. Dock used for loading Sunflower seed. 9. Dock with room for two vessels of about 3000 tons dw. 10. Large brick building that presumably belonged to the Navy. 11. Customs office. 12. A torpedo-net with ten buoys was drawn up here. 13. Dredging-apparatus that was dredging the entrance.
