The students wore high leather boots. the students practiced firing only light antitank artillery because this was the only type of weapon seen The guns were hitched to unidentified trucks. The location of the firing range was unknown The exact location of the military group was unknown) it was near or possibly in the artillery se emy. Occasionally these cadets in the city where they acted as guard squads armed with pistols, culatin (sic), and submachine guns. They wore a khaki color shirt which buttoned to the neck and had a wide neckband. It was rumored they were being trained in new war tactics, engineering, and in radar techniques. 50X1-HUM Industries 5. The main industrial installation in the city was the Frunze Machine Building Plant (point No. 3, page 6). Other industrial installations were: a hydraulic pump plant, (point 6, page 6 ); a chemical plant (point 40, page 6 ) which was under construction, although an undetermined number of buildings were in operation; a textile mill (point 29, page 6 ); and a sugar refinery (point 6, page 6 ). There were two large hotels on Lenina and Stalina ulitsy. There were two movies; one next to the hotel on Stalina ulitsa, and the other, on the Kharkov road facing Lenina Park. Transportation and Traffic 6. Vehicular access to the city was by the main Kharkov highway (point 38, page 6 ). The railroad station (point 2, page 6 ) was in the northern sector of the city. The civil airfield was about 12 kilometers to the west in the village of Stepanovka (N 51-11, E 33-47). There were three autobus lines. The first departed from Red Square and went along Frunze, Gorkiy, and Privokzalnaya ulitsy (points 23i 17 and 15) to the railroad station; on the return route it went along the eastern side of the city to Stalina ulitsa and back to Red Square. The second crossed the bridge over the Psel River (point 37) and went along the Kharkov road to the chemical plant; the return route was the same. The third bus went along Stalina ulitsa to the artillery academy and returned on Kirova ulitsa (point 30b). The new urban sector of Sumy under construction (point 42, page 6 ), contained dwellings for personnel of the chemical plant. Street numbers began at the point nearest Red Square (point 26, page 6 ). Even numbers were on the right hand side of the street and uneven on the left. $. There were dial telephones. The telephone office was on an unidentified street, the first side street off Stalina ulftsa away from Red Square. The walls of the basement of the Frunze Club, called `Palace of Culture', 50X1-HUM 9. (point 16, page 6 ) on Gorkiy shosse, were concrete covered and had steel doors. One room was a billiards room, but the rest of the rooms were empty. these basement rooms were to be used as shelters. Overlay of the City of Sumy 50X1-HUM 10.
