passenger oars, 9,301 trucks, 2,410 tractors, and 68,500 motorcycles.
The' 1961/65.Investment Plan provides for 1,215 million sloty to be spent

The freight turnover ha;;.l.ed by the electric anc: diesel locomotives
increased by 37 percent ;luring the first six months o!` 1960 as com-
pared with the same per:.od in 1959. Its share in the totnni. freight
turnover of the raiiroa._s was 41.5 percent.
2. Organization
a. In 1959, the number of a?sengers totalled 1,8113 millions (a 49 million
increase compared with ._958):, and the volume o.' passenger transpoztetior,
amounted to 164.4 bil.li:)n pa3,~engc c kilometers,. In 1960, the volume of
passenger traneportatic::i is to amount to 167 b::llion passenger kilo-
meters.
b4 During the last few yea.:, the organizational 5et?-up of the h1inistry
for Traffic *as reduced. b,: 47 percent and the .iuml er of perscnnel
of the administrations of railroad divisions bj 40 percent. The
number of railroad divl-~ions was reduced from ~3 to 34, and the

a. NeV Lines
i. The routing of the eastern section of the Central Siberian
Magiatrale has been changed. According to :revious indications,
the Kamen - Al.tayskaya line .gas to be routed from the ia`orth-West
to tae South-East, generally along the Ob :River.
Recent plans provid:: for the routing of tho line from Kamen in
easterly direction ;o the passing point t:o 14 (about 12 km south
of the Usty-Talmene'caya railroad station) on the Novosibirsk -
Barnaul railroad line., From Passing Point 1,1 to Altayskaya the
line will simultaneausly co.stitute the second track of the
Novosibirsk. - Barna.zl line which is being double tracked. Mork
trains are already ..going the stretch from Kamen to Passing Point
14. By 1962, the co:s_?lete line to Altayska; a is to ba put into
service.
ii. After surveying of the western part of the South Siberian Magistrale
had been completed ;see Transport, .tion Summary of T.!ay 1960),

b. Dieselization
By mid-1960, the fo11owi-nt-; lines were converted to diesel oper?;tion:

c. Rolling Stock
i. The new diesel swit,hind; locomotive TJM-2 i,ido 0001) which was built
by the plant for ma ;hi.ne construction at B.yaz sk is being
tested at the locomotive testinj-_lant. The 1,200 PS engine has
a rated speed. of 100 km/h.
ii. The plant for the construction of transpor-: machines at Kharkov
is deei,;ning a new d:iesei locomotive Type TE-30 which is to re.?
place the series di -,jacl locomotive Type TL??3. 4th lass axle
load and lo:ver fuel con suunption thi., new locomotive is supposed
to have the same c7;>acity as the old TE-3 :_ocomotive.
iii. In 1960, the stock pa;3sen6e.c cars was supplemented by 2,500 new
all-metal cars. Thu ; an ad:itaonal 10',000 sleeper car berth
are available,
