At a meeting of the Workers' Council on 20 March 1963, the Party Secretary, Zarko Soss? spoke about the apathy, indifference and poor progress of the Union of Communists of Yugoslavia (UCY) on the. enterprise's ships and threatened that persons who did not participate actively in this work would be given shore assignments, thus indicating a new series of pressures by the UCY. He was followed by the Secretary of the. Split UCY District, who discussed the Yugoslav domestic political situation and/ briefly) foreign policy.. Among other points made in. his harangue, he stressed the "fraternal Communist bloc, solid as granite, headed by the USSR to whom Yugoslavia will offer all its support and dedication in the struggle for the final victory of the international proletariat." He also admonished . the officers of the ships for their/ and their crews'obehavior in Western ports, above all because they did not carry out their "sacred, duty" of collecting military, political, industrial, etc.., intelligence in Western countries; in fact, he criticized severely all of the officials present because almost all of them had refused to collaborate, with Yugoslav intelligence and counterintelligence officials. He con- tinued by attacking the NATO countries, and concluded by rioting that the activities of Yugoslav merchant marine personnel and their collabora- tion with their own country would be much more strictly supervised in the. future. Later on, at the same meeting, Milan Pesic, Military referent of the enterprise, spoke about the collection and filing of information on every crew member, for the purpose of insuring that each ship will always have. a complete crew, capable of handling all military duties, in case of mobilization. 50X1 , 50X1-HUM ' CONFIDENTIAL NO FOREIGN DISSEM Declassified in Part: Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2013/08/27: CIA-RDP80T00246A069000210001-2 Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2013/08/27: CIA-RDP80T00246A069000210001-2 50X1-HUM 6 ittse 4' Next 17 Page(s) In Document Denied e Declassified in Part - Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2013/08/27: CIA-RDP80T00246A069000210001-2
