TALL KING RADAR FACILITIES IN EASTERN EUROPE (S)
1. (S/WNINTEL) This report contains a tabulation of the TALL KING early-warning (EW)
radar facilities in Poland Czechoslovakia an H n r A 1 of 2 L
KING sites were identifie in t ese countrie
(Table 1) . Of these sites, 43 were occupied an nine were unoccupie as previous y repor e .
2. (S/WNINTEL) The TALL KING radar facilities are dispersed in a manner suggesting an
outerline and an innerline (Figure 1). The outerline is dispersed along the Baltic coast and
western frontie and along the western borders of Czechoslovakia and Hungary.
The innerline is a ong t e a tic coast and western/southwestern borders of Poland.
3. (S/WNINTEL) Two versions of the TALL KING were identified at the occupied sites.
The fixed or A-model TALL KING (Figure 2), mounted on one of the two control buildings used
to house support equipment, was confirmed at 21 sites. The mobile or B-model, ground-mounted
TALL KING (Figure 3) was confirmed at 22 sites. The Hungarian sites are equipped with only the
A-model (Figure 4). At two of these sites, however, the two control buildings have been replaced
by bunkers. The Czechoslovakian sites are equipped with only the B-model TALL KING. Both
the A- and the B-models are found i Poland.
4. (S/WNINTEL) These EW facilities provide the Warsaw Pact Air Defense Command with
an improved EW capability.
