SALT TWO
SESSION

December 14, 1972
6:45 - 8:30 p.m.
Soviet Mission, Geneva
Various, As Indicated
During the Soviet Ambassador's reception for the SALT
Delegations various Soviet individuals provided biographic data
as indicated below.
Gen Lt. I. I. Beletsy said he was born. in Zaporozhye. He
said he has never been in Tambov Oblast, thus suggesting he has
never been assigned to the Volga Military District. He speaks
Romanian, apparently quite well. The situation did not permit
an attempt to learn whether he has served in Romania. (I suspect
he may have been an artillery man during his early service. )
Col V. V. Budantsev said he had been a pilot but has been
off flying status for several years. He said he has been assigned
to the Defense Ministry long enough to forget that he ever served
in the Air Force.
Mr. Veys said he has regained his full health after a heart
problem last spring. He looks healthy once again. He said he. is
40 years old and. was born in 1932. He confirmed that Dr. Iozava
is a Georgian and a heart specialist. He can detect a heart attack
"from a distance" according to Mr. Veys.
Mr. Lobachev, Director of the Soviet section of some
unidentified UN committee said he entered the MFA in 1945.
