(SAD) This report updates a previous basic report on Al Qahirah Guided Missile Development Rocket and Radar Plant 333, Egypt. Each of the nine areas of the plant is discussed. Buildings and structures either under construction or completed during the period from December 1977 through May 1980 are identified and measurements are provided. The amount of floorspace at the plant increased slightly more than 30 percent during the two-year reporting period. 2. (S) This report includes a location map, two annotated photographs, and a table of mensural data. BASIC DESCRIPTION 3. (S/D) Al Qahirah Guided Missile Development Rocket and Radar Plant 333 (Figure 1) is 8.5 nautical miles (nm) east-northeast of the center of Cairo along the main Cairo-Suez Highway Between December 1977 and May 1980, roof cover at the plant was increased by 34,191 square meters. Plant expansion/construction activity observed during the reporting period is discussed for each of the nine areas that make up the plant complex. These areas include a test area, a graded and sectioned area intended for possible future plant expansion, a WNINTEL Z-2004 7/80 -1- SECRET RCA-0910019180 Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2010/11/01: CIA-RDP80TO1355A000100940001-4 Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2010/11/01: CIA-RDP80T01355A000100940001-4 or-%InC I fabrication and possible solid propellant processing and handling area, a fabrication and storage area, an administration and recreation area, a motor pool, a SAM modification and maintenance area, a SAM training area, and an abandoned possible test area. This report updates a previous NPIC report.' 4. (S/D) A test area was constructed in the northeast corner of the plant during the reporting period. It consists of a 535-meter earthen, revetted test range, a firing-in butt 423 meters from the range test stand, and a velocity test stand (item 5, Figure 2). Total roof cover of the structures in this test area (items 1 through 8) is 1,893 square meters. 5. (S/D) The complex contains a large graded and sectioned area which contains five small struc- tures (items 9 through 13) with a total of 1,017 square meters of roof cover. Two of the structures are probable explosives storage buildings under construction (items 9 and 10). Item 11 is a large incinerator with two stacks, each of which is 13 meters in height and 2.5 meters in diameter. The entire area was graded in June 1978, but only very limited construction has occurred since then. 6. (S/D) Construction of new buildings in the fabrication and possible solid propellant processing and handling area accounted for 16,319 square meters of new roof cover at Plant 333 (items 9 through 22 and 25 through 27, Figure 3 and Table 1). Particularly significant is the large three-building complex (items 11, 14, and 15) housing probable administrative, engineering, laboratory, fabrication, and assembly facilities. This building complex replaced eight small possible ingredients preparation buildings which had a combined roof cover of only 866 square meters. The net gain in roof area is 15,453 square meters. 7. (S/D) The fabrication and storage area was expanded during the two-year period by 21 new buildings with a combined roof cover of 11,912 square meters (items 1 through 8, 23, 24, 28, and 31 through 34). The large administration/engineering/research and development building (item 32) is a major addition to this area. Another major addition to the area is the explosives processing and storage complex (items 1 through 8) which may be related to the large multifunctional three-building complex of the fabrication and possible solid propellant processing and handling area. 8. (S/D) Roof cover in the administration and recreation area was increased by 1,921 square meters with the addition of a new barracks/utility building (item 29) and a new recreation/utility building (item 30). 9. (S/D) The amount of roof cover in the motor pool area was increased by 1,995 square meters with the addition of an administration building, a vehicle operations building, a storage building, and a vehicle shed (items 35 through 38). 10. (S/D) No change in existing facilities occurred in either the SAM modification and maintenance or SAM training areas during the reporting period. SAM equipment observed in the SAM modification and maintenance area on 16 May 1980 included 24 SA-2 missile launchers, ten SA-3 missile launchers, two FAN SONG radars, three LOW BLOW radars, 16 generator vans, and numerous SA-2 missile canisters. This equipment count is typical for this area. Six to ten SA-2 canisters have been seen in the SAM training area since December 1979. 11. (S/D) The area formerly designated as a possible test area has been abandoned since December 1978. 2- Z-20047/80 SECRET RCA-09/0019/80 Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2010/11/01: CIA-RDP80T01355A000100940001-4 Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2010111101: CIA-RDP80T01355A000100940001-4 Q Next 1 Page(s) In Document Denied Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2010111101: CIA-RDP80T01355A000100940001-4 Sanitized Copy Approved for Release 2010/11/01: CIA-RDP80TO1355A000100940001-4 SECRET Table 1.
