1. SIGNIFICANCE:
THIS BRIEFING BOARD DEPICTS RECENT AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHY OF UDON
AIRFIELD, THAILAND.
2. LOCATION:
THE AIRFIELD IS LOCATED 1.5 NM SOUTH OF UDON THANI.
3. COLLATERAL:
BUILT UNDER A U.S. AID PROGRAM AND USED BY THE ROYAL THAI AIR
FORCE (RTAF) AND THAI AIRWAYS, UDON AIRFIELD IS ONE OF THE PRINCIPAL
AIRFIELDS IN THAILAND. PRIMARILY A JET FIGHTER BASE, UDON IS BEING
EXTENDED TO BETTER ACCOMMODATE JET AIRCRAFT.
4+. DIMENSIONS/SPECIFICATIONS:
THE WNW/ESE CONCRETE RUNWAY, 7000 X 120 FT., IS BEING EXTENDED
2100 FT. ON THE WEST-NORTHWEST END; THERE IS A 1000 FT. OVERRUN ON
THE EAST-SOUTHEAST END.
5. MISSION READOUT:
REVEALS, IN ADDITION TO THE RUNWAY,
A HALF PARALLEL/HALF SEMICIRCULAR TAXIWAY WITH A 2100 FT. EXTENSION
UNDER CONSTRUCTION PARALLEL TO THE EXTENSION OF THE WEST-NORTHWEST
END OF THE RUNWAY. THERE ARE TWO END-CONNECTING LINKS, ONE CROSS-OVER
