1. SIGNIFICANCE:
THIS BRIEFING BOARD DEPICTS THREE NEWLY IDENTIFIED AREAS OF POL
STORAGE IN NORTH VIETNAM.
2. REMARKS:
COLLATERAL REPORTS THAT NINETY-SIX PERCENT OF NORTH VIETNAM'S BULK
POL STORAGE CAPACITY IS LOCATED AT ELEVEN KNOWN BULK STORAGE FACILITIES
OF SIGNIFICANT SIZE. THE REMAINING FOUR PERCENT OF STORAGE CAPACITY
IS IN A NUMBER OF VERY SMALL FACILITIES, INCLUDING SOME OF RECENT
CONSTRUCTION. THESE NEWER FACILITIES ARE APPARENTLY A RESPONSE TO U.S.
AIR STRIKES, AND GENERALLY CONSIST OF A NUMBER OF SMALL HORIZONTAL
TANKS PLACED IN INDIVIDUAL SHALLOW EXCAVATIONS AND MOUNDED OVER WITH
EARTH.
MISSION READOUT:
A. REVEALS APPROXIMATELY TWO HUNDRED
AND FIFTY PROBABLE POL DRUMS IN OPEN STORAGE LOCATED IN CULTIVATED
FIELDS AND ADJACENT WOODED AREAS 1.5 NM SOUTHWEST OF BAI THUONG AIR-
FIELD AT 1953N 10526E. AT LEAST SEVEN PARTIALLY CONCEALED BUILDINGS
ARE LOCATED IN THE WOODED AREA. EIGHT CARGO TRUCKS (NOT ALL SHOWN ON
GRAPHIC) AND EIGHT FOUR-WHEELED TRAILERS ARE OBSERVED.

TANKS IN EXCAVATIONS (TWO IN ONE EXCAVATION) AND ONE BURIED TANK LOCATED
THREE NM SOUTHEAST OF VINH ON THE SOUTH BANK OF THE SONG CA (RIVER)
AT 1837N 10542E. NUMEROUS POL DRUMS ARE OBSERVED IN OPEN STORAGE
THROUGHOUT THE AREA.
LOCATED JUST SOUTH OF ROUTE 110 ON THE NORTH EDGE OF A KARST HILL
APPROXIMATELY 1500 YARDS SOUTHEAST OF THANH THUY AT 1747K 10615E.
TWO FOUR-WHEELED GENERATORS ARE OBSERVED IN FRONT OF A PROBABLE
CAVE ENTRANCE. A PROBABLE POL BURIAL EXCAVATION IS LOCATED JUST
NORTHEAST OF THE ELEVEN TANKS. SEVERAL OTHER PROBABLE PIECES OF
COVERED EQUIPMENT OR SUPPLIES ARE OBSERVED IN THE AREA.
