1. SIGNIFICANCE: AN EARLY WARNING RADAR SITE IN SOUTHEAST CHINA.
2. REMARKS: THIS IS ONE OF THREE RADAR SITES LOCATED ON'HAI-TAN
TAO (ISLAND). ONE SITE, LOCATED AT 2530N 11944E,
CONTAINS AN UNIDENTIFIED PROBABLE RADAR. A SECOND
SITE, LOCATED AT 2535N 11950E,_ CONTAINS ONE CROSS
SLOT RADAR.

SPECIFICATIONS: THE SCR-270 RADAR CAN ACQUIRE AND TRACK MEDIUM
BOMBERS AT RANGES OF 100 TO 125 NM WITH AN ACCURACY li
OF ABOUT PLUS-OR-MINUS 4 MILES IN RANGE AND PLUS-OR-
MINUS FOUR DEGREES IN AZIMUTH. SEE ATTACHED DRAWING

THE CROSS SLOT RADAR IS A NATIVE CHICOM DEVELOP-
MENT WHICH HAS BEEN PRIMARILY DEPLOYED AS AN EARLY
WARNING RADAR FOR THE COASTAL DEFENSE OF CHINA. RADAR
RANGE CALCULATIONS INDICATE THAT CROSS SLOT CAN ACQUIRE
AND TRACK A B-52 IN NOSE-ON ASPECT AT DISTANCES UP TO
125 OR 130 NM. THIS RADAR IS NOT BELIEVED TO HAVE ANY
ANTI-JAMMING FEATURES. SEE ATTACHED DRAWING (REPRODUCED
THE FISH NET RADAR IS THE INTERROGATOR OF THE
OLDER IFF SYSTEM RADAR USED IN CONJUNCTION WITH GROUND
RADAR FOR IDENTIFYING AIRBORNE TARGETS AS EITHER FRIEND
OR FOE. IT HAS AN ESTIMATED PEAK POWER OF ONE KILOWATT
AND A MAXIMUM RELIABLE RANGE OF 200 NM. SEE ATTACHED.
