TYPE IIIH IN-SILO MISSILE SHOCK ISOLATION
SYSTEM-SS-17 MISSILE SYSTEM (S)
I. (SAD) Missile shock isolation components for the SS-17 missile system have been identi-
fied at Yedrovo Silo Materials Receiving Area (SMRA), USSR These unassern- 25X1
bled components (Figure I) appear to be the major components for a type IIIH in-silo missile
shock isolation system and are the first components that have been associated with ;i hock
isolation system for the 1IIH silo. These components were at the SMRA and 25X1
were removed Conversion of the 110 type IIID launch silos at Yedrovo 25X1
to type IIIH silos began in September 1974 and was completed by March 1980.
2. (TSR) Components identified as being associated with the type IIIH in-silo missile shock
isolation system are similar in design and appearance to components associated with the type IIIF
missile shock isolation system (SS-18). The identification and analyses of type IIIF shock isolation
components by the Foreign Technology Division, Air Force Systems Command, significantly
contributed to the identification of the IIIH shock isolation components.'' For ease of reference
and since the components for the two silo types are similar, IIIH missile shock isolation compo-
nents have been given the same designators as comparable 111F components.
3. (SAD) The major components associated with the IIIH shock isolation system are
a. Possible damper fixture/umbilical frame,
b. Suspension cage isolator assembly,
c. Possible missile canister suspension cage,
d. Possible shock isolation/alignment assembly, and
e. Possible damper mechanism (base).
A conceptual drawing of an assembled Type IIIH shock isolation system with dimensions is shown
in Figure 2.
